Rea to race for Honda HRC at Assen, Dixon targeting Balaton Park debut

Six-time Champion Jonathan Rea will once again race for Honda when WorldSBK the Netherlands, while Dixon’s target for his WorldSBK race debut has been revealed

Jonathan Rea will jump back on the Honda HRC machine at the TT Circuit Assen when the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship ventures to the iconic ‘Cathedral of Speed’. The six-time Champion will continue to replace Jake Dixon as the Brit continues to recover from the fractured wrist he sustained in testing in Australia, with Rea lining up alongside Somkiat Chantra once again.

Rea scored points in his comeback at Portimao, finishing P12 in Race 2, and will hope to continue that at the Pirelli Dutch Round. Assen is a circuit he loves, with 17 wins and 25 rostrums in total at the famous Dutch circuit. He will once again stand in for Dixon, whose recovery is ongoing, with a target of the Hungarian Round for what would be his WorldSBK debut. On Thursday, 2nd April, the #96 posted an Instagram reel, with the caption: “Had the wires out and x-ray shows the bones are healing. One step closer and feels good to let the wrist breathe after 6 weeks and get to start physio asap now too. Let’s goooooo”.

The full statement from Honda HRC read: “The Honda HRC team will line up with Somkiat Chantra and Jonathan Rea for the Pirelli Dutch Round at Assen (17th-19th April), with test rider Rea again standing in for the recovering Jake Dixon. Dixon’s recovery is progressing well and in line with expectations. The target for the British rider's return is Round 4, the Motul Hungarian Round (1st-3rd May), subject to final medical clearance.”
